At the heart of the Solar Impulse Foundation’s mission lies a powerful force: its Expert Community. Composed of highly qualified professionals from around the world, these experts dedicate their time and knowledge to evaluating sustainable solutions for the Efficient Solution Label, accelerating the transition to a clean, profitable, and inclusive economy.
In 2025, this community once again demonstrated that systemic change is driven not only by innovation, but by people willing to share their expertise, challenge assumptions, and support solution holders on their journey from idea to impact.
A community that continues to grow
Over the past year, the Expert Community evolved in a very tangible way with 42 new experts joining in 2025. This reflects both the importance of the Solar Impulse Foundation’s mission and the high level of commitment from those who contribute. A targeted call for experts in July 2025 alone brought 20 new specialists into the community, reinforcing priority sectors where additional expertise was needed.
As a result, the Solar Impulse Foundation now relies on a community of 370 active experts worldwide, each contributing their time and knowledge to ensure that solutions identified by the Foundation are not only innovative, but credible, scalable, and ready to deliver real-world impact.
Expertise aligned with real-world challenges
The strength of the Expert Community lies in its ability to mirror the complexity of the transition itself. Experts contribute across all major sectors addressed by the Foundation, including energy, water and waste systems, mobility, industrial processes, buildings and construction, as well as agrifood and the natural environment.
This width of expertise allows solutions to be assessed not only on their technical merit, but also on their economic viability, scalability, and relevance for markets and decision-makers. The result is a robust and credible portfolio of solutions that can genuinely support businesses, cities, and governments in their transition efforts.
Geographically, the community spans all continents, with a strong presence in Europe and growing representation elsewhere - a reminder that while innovation is global, continued efforts are needed to broaden perspectives and voices worldwide.
From evaluation to tangible impact
Experts play a central role in shaping the Solar Impulse Foundation’s solutions portfolio. Through their evaluations, exchanges with solution holders, and constructive feedback, they help identify solutions that are ready to be highlighted, labelled, and implemented.
In 2025, the contribution of the Expert Community translated into very concrete outcomes. Thanks to their evaluations and recommendations, 149 new solutions were labelled this year, bringing the Solar Impulse Foundation portfolio to 1,622 labelled solutions in total. These figures are not just milestones; they reflect hundreds of hours of expert work spent assessing technical robustness, economic viability, scalability, and real-world relevance.
