Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič said “today we will launch a partnership with the World Alliance for Efficient solutions, to provide our innovators in Europe with international reach and make sure that the members of the Alliance work well with our smart cities and regions. I am also delighted that Bertrand Piccard will join me on some destinations of the Energy Union Tour to jointly engage with citizens, civil society and businesses on how to make the energy transition a tangible reality.”
Professor Piccard said “I believe the energy transition can inspire a vision for a clean future and make a compelling case for the European project. The EU, central to this exchange of ideas and solutions, can lead in creating the conditions to make that a reality. The World Alliance for Efficient Solutions created by the Solar Impulse Foundation is looking to federate the main actors in the field of clean technology, and will work with the EU to help people, companies and institutions cooperate more closely to this end.”
Bertrand and Maroš also inaugurated a mock-up of the Solar Impulse aircraft that will be on display in the Berlaymont (EC headquarters).
